The Recology Student Artist in Residence program took 4 months. In those four months I was able to scavenge through the PDRA (public disposal and recycling area) and use the materials I gathered to create a final art piece. I created this installation by the title "The Act of Pretending"
Working with obsolete techonology, found objects, audio, and footage, Paula Morales brings an analog past into the digital present, and in turn, a digital aesthetic into the physical world. With vivid colors and an over the top aesthetic serving as unifying constants, her sculptures, installations, and photographs simultaneously address domestic and gendered spaces and associated clichés and nostalgia.
